Dia de Muertos and Monarchs

Sunday, October 30

I missed blogging my last tour which was to San Luis Potosi.  It was a great trip and maybe sometime I will go back and write about it but now I'm on to the next adventure.

We got up at 4:30 this morning to go to the airport.  Hurry up and wait.  The trip was uneventful, just the way you want it.  The Morelia airport is small so we actually walked down the roll up stairs to the tarmac and into the airport for immigration.

After settling into our hotel, we went out into the festivities.  WOW!  The streets are full of families, couples.  The decorations are numerous and colorful.  The sidewalk art is made of colored sawdust.  It will be washed away in about a week.

After lunch, we walked around the park together but then decided to split up and meet back up later at the hotel.  Oh, what's going on outside the hotel?????  A zombie parade.

Dean and Melanie were coming from California so were on a different plane that came in at 7:30. The plan was to have our driver meet them at the airport, drive them to the hotel where they would join us for dinner.  All went smoothly until they got close to the center of town and our hotel.  The partying was going strong.  The roads were blocked with people.  They got to about 4 blocks of the hotel and were practically in the zombie parade.  The taxi couldn't get any closer to the hotel so Juan and Wynn went to meet them and walk them back to the hotel.  Finally, we're all together and ready to go full steam ahead in the morning.

The view of the cathedral is always nice from the roof top restaurant of our hotel.  But it is particularly nice at night when it is all lit up.  The bells do seem to ring frequently.  We are assured that they won't be as frequent during the week as they are on Sundays.
