July 4
Happy Independence Day! Any fire works we’re getting is the lightening and thunder storm last night. It’s always a little strange to be out of the country on July 4.
The weather forecast called for clouds and rain but it’s looking pretty clear. There is a wild flower walk up the fernicular from Murren. We figure even if it is cloudy we can see the wild flowers. So up we go. The sun is out. It’s clear and beautiful. At the top there is a restaurant and a playground and of course breath-taking views. At first the wild flower path seemed rather disappointing with about 6 signs for really common wild flowers. Then we found a whole other section that has a lot more. This is a small sampling of the signs and flowers.
These were supposed to be in order of a description and then picture of the flower but blogger won out on the order.😝
We walked further. Here the hills are alive with the sound of sheep bells and bleating. It’s all so picture perfect!
We go back to the restaurant and take a seat outside with, believe it or not, a tremendous view of the mountains. We shared a family meal that is a salad and a platter with sausage bacon and a hash brown kind of thing. It also comes with a big bottle of apple drink. Apfelschorle I really liked it.
On the way back to our place we stopped at a store that sells Various souvenirs. They have small handkerchiefs that I can use for my travel table cloth. We also stopped at the coop and got groceries to make fondue for tonight.
Now it is clouding over and we all decide some quiet down time is in order. Naps all around.
After naps even though it’s pretty cloudy we walk down to Grimmelwald. It’s raining off and on but we’re blessed with a rainbow. It’s all downhill and we do agree that we a will take the cable car back up.
It’s a cute little place but we all agreed that we’re glad we’re in Murren. Visit the honesty shop. You leave the money you owe and it’s al on the honor system. A beer later and we take the cable car back up to Murren to make that fondue for dinner.
