July 2 Saturday
Today we need to drive 2 1/2 hours back to Prague to return the rental car at the airport. Get from the airport to the bus station to catch a 2:00 bus to Munich. There we will stay at a hotel near Christina's place for the night. There is a festival in Munich tonight so that will be a fun spot in the day.
After getting our luggage packed, we head out for some coffee and pastry. still a little early and most places aren't open yet. That place that has a low door and steps down looks like it's open. We go down and it opens up to a really nice area on the water. Seems like almost every where it's on the water. They have an extensive coffee menu and a hot chocolate with amaretto and cream that is calling my name. Morning cake is on the menu. I ask what it is. He doesn't know how to describe it so brings it out for me to look at. Basically, it's a pound cake and i decide to have a piece. it's fun to watch the ducks landing on the quiet part of the River in the lea of an island.
We go back to pick up our luggage and head out. Gerry, our host meets us and offers us some of his family mead. He tells us how glad he is that we stayed longer than most to take in more of the town. We would have liked to have stayed longer. I guess he appreciated our sincere interest in the history of the house. He offered to help me with my suitcase. I thought it was just for up the few stairs bit he carried it about 2 blocks to where the car was parked. This was certainly a 5 star stop.
As we get close to Prague, waze and Google have a major disagreement. Turns out there are two airports in Prague and they were talking is to different ones. Found the one we needed and got there to return the car. We figure there will be better lunch options at the airport than the bus station. Oh my, there fox court has burger king or burger king. I guess we'll experience Czech burger king. They advertise things over never seen before like the Texas Burger. Searched the menu and finally found wopper junior.
With our luggage it was much easier to take a taxi to the bus station than struggle with public transportation and a change. The bus station had a bigger food selection. Burger King or a hot dog place.
We settle in for a 5 hour bus ride. we're upstairs and it seems pretty comfy. About an hour in, we pull out the cheese, crackers and beer that we brought with us. Sure makes the ride nicer. It's announced that we will have a 20 minute stop. There are so many KFC places here and that is where we stop. We had been joking about going to KFC and here we are and in order to get the code to the bathroom, you have to order simmering. Turns out they also charge about a dollar for extra ketchup and sauce. geeze!
Once we get to Munich, we take the subway one stop to the train station which is close to our hotel and Christina’s place. We drop out suitcases at the hotel and walk 10 minutes to Christina’s place. She shares it with a woman who is rarely there when Christina is. She wasn’t there so we weren’t able to meet her. Most of the apartments is definitely hers and Christina has a nice, open room. Also a nice balcony of the kitchen with lots of plants and herbs. The area has several sidewalk cafes and is convenient to public transportation. It’s nice to be able to picture Christina in her place now.
The Tollwwod festival is in the grounds where Munich held the Olympics in 1972. A spindle tower remains,
The atmosphere is certainly festive with lots of happy couples, children laughing, aromas floating through of tempting goodies. We stop and have ribs and baked potatoes loaded with sour cream, cream cheese and herbs. It’s amazing all of the preparation done for the festival with a big music tent, a huge tent with a middle eastern theme with couches for enjoying the hookahs. But we have a 6:55 am train to catch so call it a night around 11:00 and head back to our hotel.
