June 17 Friday
Well, this is the third time that I’ve written about today and have lost the other two. Hopefully, this one won’t disappear into cyber space. Frustrating gEtting used to a new device and poor Wi-Fi connection on top of it.
We make plans to meet up with Isaac at a place his friend recommends - Where the Pancakes are. Turns out there are a couple of them and we end up at a different one than Isaac. A change of plans to meet him at the entrance of the British museum as we have entry tickets for 1:00. A few more tube rides and we’re there and there is Isaac sitting under a tree in the shade waiting for us.so fun to see a loved one in a far off place. We chose the first eating place we see since time is short. Pretty mediocre food but the company is grand and that is what’s important now. Somehow we didn’t do a selfie of us together in this once in a lifetime place.
There is a long queue to get into the museum but we figure with our timed tickets that we could jump the line. Nope. So what good is a timed ticket? Nick spots a sign to an alternate entrance. It’s about two blocks to around back. Worth the risk and walk. No line and we waltz right in. I’d call that a score. We decide to start at the top and work our way down. When I was in Egypt, I found the museums fascinating as there was context with what we were seeing. Here it just seemed like stuff. I enjoyed the Northern Europe displays the most as that related to the Scotland areas where I just was. What is a complete Greek temple doing here? Seems a bit like poking around in a hoarder’s attic. I must admit it is a pretty impressive hoarder. Maybe we didn’t set into it because it was hot or because we were tired, Two hours was plenty.
An exhibit about time pieces and not a mention of sundials? This is a time piece to look like a ship. |
We decided a walk along a park on the Thames would be a pleasant thing to do on a hit afternoon. Since we aren’t familiar with the city, we didn’t quite know where to do this. With the help of maps we find a green space on the Thames near a tube stop. Sounds good and we make our way there with a couple of train stops. Didn’t look to promising when we got off the train but after a couple of blocks of walking, we found ourselves joining families and couples enjoying the shade and grass along the river.
Time to head back to our neck of the woods for some dinner. We explore going the other direction from our place at the tube stop. We find more restaurants and shops. We pick a Mediterranean place that has a table available outside. I have a lamb shish that was plentiful and delicious. Since we have kitchen privileges at our place, I take some with me for later.
"a hoarder's attic"!!! I love it!!
